We are seeing a large increase in the number of these being imported into New Zealand due to the fact they are now old enough to come in under our import laws. This one has a few cool bits like an HKS/Garrett single turbo conversion, Nismo suspension and Panasport wheels.
I’d really like to own one of these in the next few years and have it sitting in the garage ready for when I want to go out and have some fun. Personally I think the R32 is the best looking generation. The R35 is batshit crazy and awesome but you can’t beat how awesome these things look when done !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Trade Me is the New Zealand version of eBay/Craigslist. I will aim to post up auctions for any interesting and rare cars that we get in this little corner of the world known as New Zealand.

I thought NZ didn't have import laws? What are the import laws in NZ?
If shit goes south real fast I'd love to leave the US and move there lol
That R32 is NICE

We do have some, probably not as strict as other countries though. You can't import vehicles between 6 and 20 years old. Hence why the R32 GTR is becoming popular as it is older than 20 years now. The vehicles also have to meet regulations around frontal impact, emissions and fuel consumption.
We also have a Special Interest Vehicle law which allows 200 vehicles to be imported each year without having the meet the above regulations providing the vehicle was manufactured in annual volumes of 20,000 or less, is or was manufactured as a high performance vehicle and is considered a collectors item by various local and international car magazines. This allocation has been filling up very early on each year so they are looking to extend it.

Interesting. When I watched the mighty car mods episode when they were in NZ, I caught a vibe like NZ didn't give a shit what you brought over. I guess that isn't the case.
In the US the car has to be 25 years or older to meet importation, unless it has gone through crash test standards and federalization with the emissions. Back in the 80's during our grey market era people were importing all kinds of barely used cars from Europe (my 85 745i, which was built for the West German domestic market only was imported to the US in 86) and I think after the gov't caught on they implemented all these crazy importing restrictions. Which is why the R33 and R34 skyline is still illegal here, to the point where the gov't will track you down and crush your car if they find out you have one. The R32 is just barely becoming legal this year.
Can you own FPV's from Australia in NZ? Also, is it true that car insurance isn't required?

Quite a few R32 GTRs made it in even before they closed the hole... I've seen quite a lot roaming around once in a while.

Ouch that's harsh! Yes you can own FPV's here. New Holden and Ford's are sold new here in large numbers and re well priced given they are only just made across the Tasman in Australia. Although I imagine that will all change when Australia cease makings cars in the next few years.
Car insurance ins't mandatory unfortunately. You'd be an idiot not to have it though and it's very frustrating when an uninsured driver hits you. It's something they have talked and talked about. Hopefully they eventually get around to sorting it out.

I'm surprised they don't have it in the law where if an uninsured driver hits you, you can take money out of their income (if they don't pay up) until they pay you back.
I know uninsured driving is a huge risk but if I had my 29 year old BMW down there I doubt I'd have anything on it. We have plenty of uninsured drivers in the US (cough illegal immigrants cough) to the point where I actually have uninsured driver insurance on all my cars.

Good stuff. As a Kiwi living in the US, I miss the interesting cars that we'd get over there. My tastes tend more toward the European, but I've always had a soft spot for the Skyline.
I'm still toying with the idea of bringing a few sufficiently old oddities over to the States one day...
